Fedora has made a splash with his attitude and determination ever since he arrived at UNC. Given our recent victory over NCSU and Renner's injury it is time Fedora to give his guys a shot. It takes a couple of years to get his recruits in and play effectively. Fedora's "Smart Fast Physical" has served him well in the past and it will take some time for UNC to adjust to his system. Although this year has not been the best in terms of our record, there have been sparks of brilliance.

Fedora is flat out the right man for the job at UNC. As seen in this quote, he definitely has a winning attitude, and the way the team has fought this year, it is pretty apparent that he is developing the same type of attitude in his players. After a few years of what felt like Carolina players more interested in playing for themselves and their future NFL careers, it is nice to have a coach that is building a team first attitude. Despite the early adversity in the season, I am excited to see what happens the rest of this season, and I am especially excited about the number of young players who refuse to "play scared" like Fedora is talking about.

Though on paper this quote looks like Fedora is being tough and is unafraid to play Marquise Williams as hard as he usually would, this is just another part of Fedora's endless PR routine. Of course the team isn't going to play scared, it's a football team. Fedora feeds the media lines that reflect the type of program he wants to run, regardless of how true the statement is. Fedora is infamous for only using "coach speak" and never fully disclosing injuries our hi game plan.

Fedora is showing belief in the depth of this football team, and belief in the unit as a whole. It's good to see that losing such an important player like Renner is not going to affect the mindset of the head coach too much, and that he speaks as if he is capable of carrying this football team forward no matter who goes down. On the bright side, this gives Marquise Williams an opportunity to shine and show his talents while getting more snaps, and also opens up a slot for the now back up Kanler Coker to get some practice in game time situations. Fedora has good quotes in this article and chose his words wisely, as to not talk unnecessarily about Renner's injury and focus on moving forward.

While losing Renner for the season was a tough blow for the Tar Heels, Fedora is showing confidence in his guys, especially Marquise Williams, that they will get the job done. Fedora is talking about the next-men-up mentality that football teams must have because injuries occur all the time, and overcoming those injuries is critical to the success of the football team.

I love when UNC Basketball quotes can be used in our everyday lives. This is definitely from an athletic perspective but can also be applied in our everyday lives at Carolina and beyond.

This is a good example of how public relations deals with major and minor crises in many areas. This case involves Coach Fedora's remarks to try and keep the fans, school, and his team positive. Many people can get easily frustrated when their team starts the season 1-5. To make matters worse, starting quarterback Bryn Renner went down. It was shrewd and appropriate of Coach Fedora to make this season to ensure the fans that the team will still compete at a high level. Saying the wrong thing, or not saying anything at all, could cause people to worry or to become frustrated, which would lead to less tickets being sold. No one from the Carolina Administration will admit this, but sometimes it all comes down to money.

This is a little bit of football PR. regardless of the team's record, Fedora has to keep his guys motivated to push themselves and continue to improve every day. It's hard to do that sometimes when your season is a bust 5 or 6 games in, but it's vital to building a strong program that will see success year in and year out. Renner's injury is unfortunate, especially with him being a senior, but this will give Marquise a shot to show what he can do with his arm and legs. 11/20/2013 03:40:06 am
Although Renner's injury was a blow to the UNC offense, our next man in line, Marquise Williams, has an explosive ability to both run and throw the ball. Not just that, he's had plenty of experience going in and out between plays with Renner. I think based on his recent experience starting games, it can be with high hopes that UNC will travel to a bowl game this year. With only ODU and Duke left as competitors, the odds are on our side. Only the lack of seriousness complied with complacency will cost us a double loss to end the season. Not just that, but our next QB in line, Mitchell Trubisky, will take off his red shirt for next year and show UNC the talent he's kept quietly on the sidelines during each game. I love Renner and agree he's had an incredible career, but the team is strong and will only be motivated to fill his shoes and press to the end of the season with a winning record. Win for Bryn.

This "next man up" attitude often boosts teams after losing a key player like Renner to a season-ending injury. It allows younger guys to get experience and gain confidence, which ultimately helps the program grow for the future. Enter: Marquise Williams. This guy has stepped up a big way, setting the single-game TD record Saturday in our blowout win over Old Dominion.

The attitude of a team and its supporters can have a significant impact on the team's performance. For the UNC football team to lose its starting quarterback for the remainder of the season due to injury takes a toll on the team's morale. Coach Fedora made a generic comment to keep his players motivated. Teams always play to win. However, Fedora may have been too determined to prove that his team would "play to win" to consider the ethics of running up the score on Old Dominion on Saturday.

This mentality has definitely proven to be true for the football team. After being forced to overcome the obstacle of losing Bryn Renner due to an injury, the team has stepped up to the plate and has "played to win." The season has turned around for the Tar Heels who are now bowl eligible, winning their past 5 games and scoring almost as many points as the basketball game on Saturday. Hopefully the team will continue the winning streak and "play to win" against Duke Saturday.

This quote could not describe Larry Fedora's mentality of the second half of the 2013 campaign. From someone who plays under Coach Fedora, I can say that these were the types of motivating and inspiring words that were spoken daily to the team. This eventually led to our football team rallying around Marquise Williams, which helped him lead the team to the 2013 Belk Bowl and a monster win over Cincinnati.

Man, what a great quote...not playing scared, but playing to win. I think that I love this one so much because I have been playing tennis for the past 12 years of my life and every time I compete it comes down to not being scared out there, it is all about playing to win. Sometimes it's easy to "play not to lose" and then you end up losing because you're not playing to win!

I really admire this quote. When it comes to playing a game that you have been working for it's incredibly important to give it your all and not hold back. Feeling scared is bound to eventually happen but once you push past it, there is nothing that can stop you.

I believe that this quote not only applies to UNC football but also to our UNC academics, basketball, and even the mentality of the hospital workers. This is a mindset that can be applied to anyones lifestyle, and should. With the mentality of blocking out fear and reaching goals anything is possible. This mindset is what gets good grades, wins games, and finds cures to save lives. It is what separates the winners from the losers.

I believe this quote can apply to many aspects in life. Any time a hardship in life arises, you have the choice to either act it or fall back from it, and I like how this quote shows the mentality of attack. This quote also hit home with me because after watching our senior captain tear her ACL in our game against the USA team, our team quickly and easily adapted the mentality presented in this quote. This quote presents a great mindset that everyone should take on. Leave a Reply. |
