In my opinion, North Carolina has created a very efficient law, leaving no citizen disenfranchised. As a citizen of the United States and a former citizen of the state of North Carolina, I believe that it is our responsibility to obtain and preserve a photo identification to represent ourselves. I think that a federal lawsuit against this law is too much and unnecessary waste of money - on both the federal behalf and the state's behalf - especially because it is taxpayers who will be paying for the prosecution and defense of the suit. Instead of a lawsuit, I think that proposals should be made to reform the lawsuit to better fit the needs of the people and minority groups, if that is everyone's problem with it. One way this could be possible is allowing for every North Carolina citizen to acquire a free form of identification in order to allow them to vote. It is not necessary just for voting, but every citizen should have an ID - that is simple. McCrory makes a good point in stating that 34 other states require a form of ID to vote as well. North Carolina is simply trying to create uniformity and a new system; they are not trying to suppress the minorities.

Gov. McCrory did not make the law with the intent to disenfranchise people. The law serves as a protection of our voting rights. The law protects my vote. No one can walk into a place of voting and pretend to be me. We have to have IDs to do almost everything in society from driving to writing a check, so requiring some form of picture ID to vote, doesn't make NC 'The worst of everything.' It means that things are changing in the US, and NC is keeping up. Leave a Reply. |
