This is extremely sad. It is horrible to think that Lampedusa can't even help the immigrants once they get there because they are already dead. It definitely brings perspective to how lucky I am to be an American citizen and how little worries I have day to day do not even compare to the worries of these people.
In today's society sometimes it seems as if the darkest secrets of the world are held underground or manipulated/framed so they are not as impactful. This statement although referring to African immigrants on a boat, is reflective of societies easily tolerant of mishaps, as long as they are finite. Issues the globe faces should be tackled with a tool kit readily for repair, opposed to simply putting recurring problems in more and more caskets.
