It's moments like this that make me feel like the stranger next to me, wearing baby blue, is family. UNC-Chapel Hill is more than just an academically strong school with a beautiful campus, great athletics, and a diverse student body. It's the spirit of our University, our traditions and legacy that connects us all and binds us under the label of a Tar Heel, no other school has that kind of unity.

I think this quote is a perfect example of the way that so many students at UNC feel about so many things that happen on campus in our time here. Although we might realize we are truly blessed upon acceptance to Carolina, it is not until we are here on campus, walking through the Pit everyday, walking to the Dean Dome on game days, and attending speakers like President Obama, that we realize how fortunate we are to be in this slice of heaven. Even though this quote is about an amazing game won, I feel like it is applicable to the Carolina experience as a whole. On the day I graduate, I know that I will be in tears, along with many of my fellow classmates, and the previous four years (and graduation day) will be something I'll never forget. 7/2/2013 01:47:17 pm

I remember standing in the student section during this game. Feeling slightly agitated by the NC State fans that always act like they have something to prove. But then out of nowhere, seeing Gio run across the field and score a touchdown. Everyone around me cheering and screaming and jumping up and down. It was an amazing moment of my UNC career and one I will not forget. Academics are important but college is more than just a grade. Its the moments I've spent with friends, involved in campus organizations, at the football games, that have made college more than an experience...more than a memory. These experiences have made me who I am and will shape the person I become even after I graduate.

I probably have a MUCH more different experience than everyone else that could relate to this.

When you walk onto Carolina's campus, you will find no shortage on intense, gut-wrenching, Tar Heel Pride anywhere you look. This quote really embodies the way that all Carolina students are able to connect through sports and the Tar Heel spirit. I remember this moment in this game—exactly who I was sitting with and that time when I started attacking the stranger next to me because I was so excited. Carolina prides itself on community, and I think the way that we can all leave our emotions out on the football field, even with complete strangers, is symbolic of the way that we are all a Tar Heel family here at Carolina—and thats something really special that not all universities can boast about.

It's sports moments like these that remind me why I always wanted to go to Carolina and be a Tar Heel. No matter the season, the team, the players or the year, UNC athletics will always surprise you. It will always keep you guessing and it will always throw you a curve ball. I guess that's part of the reason I love sports, as well part of the reason I love Carolina sports. Your out there in the stands, watching the basketball game, the baseball game the soccer game and BAM. Home run. A steal and a dunk. A final goal. And all of a sudden you are united with everyone around you. Your all a family and you all have the same passion for your school that brings you such excitement in that moment. Tear jerking sports moments is what we live for. Leave a Reply. |
