I'm sure security issues are not just occurring here at UNC, however the number of security problems we've experienced over the past year or two is somewhat alarming. Varying from the many deaths of students last year to the infamous rape case and the many, many assaults that occur, and the fire just last week at Cobb dorm, these seem like much more serious incidents than I expected coming to college. Since I have only ever gone to UNC, it's hard to get an idea of if other universities experience the same amount of AlertCarolina-type warnings we get about the incidents around campus, but hopefully the campus will become a safer place as time progresses.

Even if it is happening on college campuses all across America, that does not make it okay. During my four years at UNC, I have heard countless stories from my friends involving everything from attempted attacks to break ins, and other unfortunate circumstances. It is not fair for myself and other females to feel afraid to walk home at night. I know I am not proposing a solution, because I honestly do not know what can help improve Chapel Hill, but I am simply suggesting that it not be considered normal or acceptable just because other college towns have similar problems. This is Chapel Hill, an amazing place to live, and continued efforts to keep it that way need to be sought after. Leave a Reply. |
