The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has consistently displayed its superior ability to deal with something so traumatic as a death in the student body. It is always impressive to see how tight and supportive the community feels while dealing with a sad loss at such a big university. This quote was said at a small event on campus in which nine deceased students were remembered for their time on campus and their effects on others in the school community. It is so easy to get lost in the mass of young adult students in Chapel Hill, but this quote depicts the significance of each and every student on campus, living and deceased. 4/2/2014 01:36:42 am
What a legacy that Eve has left on our campus. Our University has always served as a melting pot of exemplary leaders, but what is just as extraordinary is the rallying around the leaders of our past. It's because of current students like Zack Newbauer, who serve to further the legacies of our Universities' past leaders, that make our campus the special place that it is.

Though death is not an easy topic to deal with, I think that after something as traumatic as that happens, Carolina has a special way of truly coming together as a student body. I may be biased since I am a student here, but at the same time I can attest to the huge gestures of love, support and friendship that this university has offered to me whether it is a time of sadness, happiness or excitement. Each and every individual adds something to our student body and has been touched by the actions and voices of others. I think that because of this, there's a sense of passing it on within the students here. They pass on this mantra to the newer classes and it's become a part of this university's identity.

I did not know Eve Carson, but I feel like I know her. Zack's quote perfectly sums up one of the fundamental aspects of the Carolina Way, and it's something that makes me even more proud to go to this university. Though it's unfortunate that tragic events are sometimes what bring communities together, each time something like that happens at UNC, I'm blown away by the collective compassion of our campus. Each Carolina student is special, and this quote speaks to the ability of UNC to come together, which is a quality that I'm not sure every school has. Leave a Reply. |
