I completely agree with this statement. I'm amazed that a better system hasn't been created to register for classes and get in the classes that students need to graduate. Class checker is the best way I've found to try to get into classes. Enrollment always feels like a defeat from the start.

ConnectCarolina is definitely on the up and up. I am a transfer student to UNC Chapel Hill and when I first dealt with the competitive class adding and dropping I felt so dejected. I actually researched ConnectCarolina because I noticed a lot of kvetches about it. UNC use to have Student Center and recently upgraded to ConnectCarolina. When I found this out in addition to the improvements of shopping cart features and how the site was actively being recreated for the better I breathed a sigh of relief. Registration is always stressful, but at least I know that people are working to making it easier all of the time.

This is a topic that everyone discusses during class sign-ups. Preparing for classes is a nightmare to begin with and the most stressful part is waiting until your turn to sign up. Over the summer, my schedule was deleted by admissions three days before classes started because of an error in the system. I went to campus the next day to try and piece together a schedule and luckily was able to get a few of my classes back. However, as a Junior, this was probably one of the most frustrating things to ever happen to me as a college student.

This new 'validate' button is definitely going to relieve some of the students' stress come registration time. The uncertainty of what the outcome will be when you press the enrollment button literally instills fear in each student especially freshmen and sophomores who are given absolutely no priority. As a junior I've experienced this several times, and I've heard from fellow teammates that they don't even count on getting 3 of 5 classes in their shopping cart. That's just sad. Registration shouldn't be this stressful and I'm happy to see that something is finally being done about it. This new feature is definitely going to come in handy, but I still think there are other ways in which registration can become more of an opportunity rather than a burden.

I feel the pain here. My first semester here, I only got one of the classes I wanted because of how confused I was about the shopping cart so I was pretty upset after orientation. Only a few of my friends walk around with smiles on registration day. I'm glad we're making steps to improve the system so everyone can be a little happier on that stressful day.

The shopping cart has always needed improvement. The frustration initiates from Connect Carolina. You can't have more than one tab open without all the pages being redirecting to your most recent page. This makes it difficult to pull up your requirements, your calendar and your shopping cart, along with whatever else, at one time. When you search for classes and add them to your shopping cart, the next most frustrating thing is when you realize you added it to your fall semester... which has already passed. Then you have to re-add them to the correct semester. Finally, you narrow your schedule down to the five classes you want to take for the correct upcoming semester, only to find out you are denied from enrollment. Yes, the class has a green open circle, but no you cannot enroll. Why? You're not too sure because the vague phrase next to the red X does not give the slightest explanation. Leave a Reply. |
