No disrespect here but what students want is lower tuition. I am confident that the majority of the students on this campus do not pay attention to many other issues in regards to their chancellor. The new chancellor can be anyone from anywhere as long as they keep a little extra money in my pocket.

I agree with Nicholas. What the students want is no big mystery. The students want lower tuition. They want to walk to class and read the DTH and not have to see a new scandal everyday. They also want their University to treat all students equally, whether they are athletes or not. So unless Will can fix some of the major issues, or tap into the perception of the students and be honest about what we want, nothing is going to change. The students don't want another chancellor or a committee to decide the new chancellor or a committee to decide what committee decides the new chancellor. They want financial stability. 7/2/2013 01:43:02 pm

Aside from the technical details about we would like to see as students at UNC, I greatly support the intentions behind this quote. One of my favorite things about this university is the great impact students can make if they take advantage of the opportunities. We are given many platforms from which we can freely express our opinions and contribute to UNC (look at the student-run honor court for example). The fact that students' opinions were even taken into consideration during the search for a new chancellor is a privilege I am proud our school provides. 9/29/2013 09:45:44 am

Despite what students want and their response to this quote, I believe that Jac is correct in saying that it is intention behind this quote that is important. It shows that the students' opinions do matter. Whether a student's opinion is strong or non-existant, the fact he or she has one is something worth noting.

I agree that this quote is important in that it emphasizes the effort Student Government is making to better understand the needs of the student body. Although the reality is that the diversity of student opinions probably wouldn't have a huge impact on the new chancellor search, it is still really important for students to be able to have a voice about the situation and have it heard by their elected student government leaders.
