I have a best friend that works in the coast guard and he talks about how little they are recognized for their jobs as similar to the men that fight for our country. It's nice to know that the News and Observer does as much as they can to acknowledge these men and women in this career. Below is the link to a compelling story of a great rescue made in 2008 that I encourage everyone to read. My favorite quote in the article is "Mayday, mayday, mayday. This is the Alaska Ranger. 5, 3, 5, 3 North, 1, 6, 9, 5, 8 West... We are flooding, taking on water in our rudder room." 7/2/2013 01:49:45 pm

It is absolutely true that the men and women of the United States Coast Guard are under recognized for the services that they provide to our country. Members of the Coast Guard put in just as much time and effort into keeping the citizens of the US safe (and keeping the bad guys out) as the other branches of the US military – the only difference is that the Coast Guard operates at home. Just because the Coast Guard operates at home does not mean that the job is any less dangerous or intense as the jobs of the men in uniform stationed in Afghanistan. As the members of the HMS Bounty found out, the Coast Guard is an invaluable resource. Although the HMS Bounty was a big story, the Coast Guard rescues fisherman, sailors and recreational boaters every day. They also stop a lot of illegal drugs from entering the country. It is nice to see The News & Observer recognize the brave men and women of the US Coast Guard. Leave a Reply. |
