Wow, it is a relief to see an intelligent and powerful response to the public safety of our nation. The usual response to an unknown cause is to give up. It is nice to see a Governor stand up and address that and then combat it with his personal beliefs. It is also a relief to see that efforts are trying to be made after the shooting in Newton. It would be one thing if this were the first case, but after Columbine, V-tech, and the Aurora Theatre shooting it is becoming exhausting for this nation to see no change in public safety. Let's see if Governor Malloy will actually do something and make a difference.

The governor spoke regarding a tragedy that has no known underlying cause, but he commented on it regardless because of his desire to never let something similar happen again. After so many parties vocalizing their disinterest in new gun control laws, it is great to see the Governor standing up to work towards changing SOMETHING about the current situation, whatever that may be, to keep such an awful occurrence from happening again. Whether it was mental illness, poor gun control laws, or something else entirely that led to this shooting - he doesn't want to let that irrelevant argument get in the way of changing the status quo in order to save lives in the future.

This quote is the perfect description of how our nation should be acting in regard to horrible incidents such as Sandy Hook or the theater shooting in Colorado. Yes, these incidents are horrible and it often will put people in a state of shock because they can't imagine there are people in this world and in this very nation that would take the lives of innocent people in a mass shooting. In their state of disbelief, many people want to learn more about what happened before making any major decisions about what needs to be done to address the issue and to prevent something like that from ever happening again We cannot let this shock of the event that has occurred prevent us from doing anything at all. Something needs to be done in regard to these incidents almost directly, if not immediately after the events have occurred. This is especially the case for the Sandy Hook incident. There have been too many shootings in the US, almost to the point where they don't seem quite as tragic because they are happening more and more often. This specific shooting provides our nation with the opportunity to realize that we have to acknowledge that there are some sick people in our world and that there needs to be some preventative measure taken whether it be addressing gun control rights, or trying to address the common symptoms that this unique kind of killer may have. Now is the time for action in situations like this, you don't need the underlying cause of a tragedy to know that an event is a tragedy. Leave a Reply. |
