This comment shows how behind our country still is when it comes to gender equality. While people often think of women as equals with men, we still have a long way to go before true gender equality exists in our country; this statement represents a step that direction. The ban on women in combat reminds me of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that, until recently, the US Armed Forces employed. The demolition of both of these bans shows the growth and improvement in equality and diversity in the US Armed Forces. It is opening the military to many people who may have felt discriminated against or unequal and is a good example for other industries to follow and lift restrictions for women and minorities. Perhaps businesses will take action after this example and allow equal pay and equal work to all employees. With the creation of equality in the armed forces, hopefully increased equality in all areas of our lives will follow. Leave a Reply. |
