The attempted sale of holocaust artifacts on eBay represents a major oversight by their management and a PR disaster. eBay is sure to face a significant backlash in the jewish community, as well as in the general population. eBay has issued an official apology, and emphasized that eBay doesn't permit the sale of items of this nature on their website. By apologizing and admitting fault, eBay has taken the first step towards the salvation of their brand image. They have also promised to improve the technology that monitors the sales listings on their site for inappropriate material. I would also expect eBay to make a major donation to a holocaust museum or to a Jewish organization to make ammends.

EBay attempting to profit off of Holocaust artifacts is repulsive. The choice to highlight this ending quote is appropriate, as EBay should be scorned for putting up Holocaust items on the website. Hopefully eBay has learned it's lesson and will be trafficking it's website more carefully. In addition, it is necessary they manage this situation as soon as possible by graciously donating a hefty sum to a Jewish organization.

I think that EBay made a huge mistake when allowing the sale of these Holocaust artifacts. Even if it was just a slight oversight and the company was not aware of what was being sold until after the trade was already made, they should have a better screening process for the items being sold on their website. Although it is the individuals who are selling these items between each other, EBay is associated with every purchase and their name will be attached to that item once it leaves the seller. This one instance makes me wonder what other items have been sold on EBay that have no right being on the market.

Ebay attempting to sell Holocaust articles for profit shows a complete lack of respect and monitoring. While eBay did issue an official apology, it will be hard for them to recover from an oversight like this. Apologizing was the first step but in order to regain face with the public, eBay has a long rode ahead of them. They need to make contributions or donations to a Jewish organization and improve their monitoring technology. Leave a Reply. |
